The Mylan Touch
It was the vision of two army buddies.
The year was 1961: John F. Kennedy was inaugurated as President.
A live measles vaccine was developed. And annual medical expenses averaged $100 per person.
It was also the year that two army buddies, Milan (Mike) Puskar and Don Panoz decided to start a company.
They called their company "Milan Pharmaceuticals Inc."
From the beginning, the founders were determined to build the company's name and reputation on quality and integrity.
They focused on delivering affordable, quality pharmaceuticals through prompt delivery and exemplary service to
customers. This early no-compromise attitude created a firm foundation of the principles for which the company would stand.
Today, Mike Puskar is chairman of the company he started in 1961. And although the name has become "Mylan Pharmaceuticals Inc.,"
the philosophy on which it was founded has remained unchanged.
A vision to be the best. It's what makes Mylan, Mylan.
It started in a small town.
White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, is a typical American small town, complete with
a "Main Street." It's the kind of place where dreams are made, so it's fitting that
in 1961 it was the place that two army buddies chose to be the home of their new pharmaceutical company.
They called their company "Milan"-after Mike Puskar, one of the two founders-and set up shop in a small building.
The company grew quickly and established a reputation for quality and integrity, and its
philosophy—"We either do it right or we don't do it at all"—helped to direct its early efforts.
Today, Mylan is the #1 US-based manufacturer of generic pharmaceutical products1
and it is still located in a small town…Morgantown, West Virginia.
Small-town pride. It's what makes Mylan, Mylan.
It is recognized by employees.
There has been something special about Mylan Pharmaceuticals since the beginning.
An employee recently observed that "No matter what we as individuals bring to the company,
the corporate philosophy and work ethic make us better."
Bringing the best out in people is an important component of our success.
It is evident throughout our entire staff, which totals more than 3,000 employees.
From manufacturing to management, everyone at Mylan is always ready to take that extra
step to be sure our products reflect the quality that patients expect…and we demand.
Although you can't touch it, you know it's there. It's what makes Mylan, Mylan.
It reflects the values of a quiet man.
Companies are often like the people who create them. They can have personality and character.
Since 1961, one man's vision and values have helped to guide Mylan Pharmaceuticals.
In 1961, Mike Puskar co-founded the company and dedicated it to making quality pharmaceuticals more
affordable for the patients who needed them.
Today, he is the company's Chairman of the Board, overseeing the vision that he helped create.
While he will always acknowledge the contributions of others as being responsible for the success of Mylan,
everyone recognizes and respects Mike Puskar for his leadership. Through dedication and hard work, the
company he founded has quietly touched the lives of millions of people who use Mylan products every day.
A sense of values. It's what makes Mylan, Mylan.
It shaped the future of pharmaceuticals.
According to a United States Senate subcommittee, "Prescription drug prices are unreasonably high."
2 Sound familiar?
Well, you might be surprised to learn that this statement was not made last week…it was made in 1961!
A belief that pharmaceuticals should be affordable for the patients who needed them was what prompted the
start of Mylan in 1961. Since that time,
the need for quality, affordable pharmaceuticals has remained constant and spawned
the development of the generic industry.
Today, Mylan is proud to be the #1 US-based manufacturer of generic pharmaceutical products.1
We manufacture products in nearly every therapeutic category and our expertise includes extended-release oral
products and transdermal products…all of which adhere to the same principles upon which we were founded.
A long-standing commitment to affordable pharmaceuticals. It's what makes Mylan, Mylan.
It brightens the lives of millions.
We will never see the faces of all the people who benefit from our products, but we know they are
just like the people who work at Mylan. They have hopes, dreams, families, and a desire to enjoy
each and every moment of every day.
From angina to arthritis, depression to diabetes, pain to Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia to
sleep disorder, Mylan makes the products that improve the quality of life for patients.
We are proud of this distinction. That is why we will continue to do what we do best…manufacture
quality pharmaceuticals and make them affordable.
It has earned us the trust of pharmacists who consistently rank Mylan #1 in quality.3
Making life better for patients. It's what makes Mylan, Mylan.
